Babel Lille - Mission-driven company

Société à mission

A Green Key hotel,
committed and eco-friendly

Babel Energy

BABEL has set itself a mission: to help reinvent quality hospitality while placing the preservation of the environment and natural resources at the heart of its concerns. Just as we already do at our Parisian property in the Belleville neighborhood, BABEL aims to highlight the richness of the Lille region by building long-term relationships with hyper-local suppliers, Lille-based artists, and neighborhood associations. These initiatives embody Babel's vision: a brand of hospitality that extends beyond our walls, connecting worlds, from the traveler to the neighbor, from the hotel to the local district.

Babel embodies an eco-friendly hotel in Lille, responsible, alternative, environmentally conscious, and locally rooted. It is a vibrant, multifaceted space, a stationary journey just steps from the train station, tucked away on a quiet street, fueled by good energy and carefully sourced products.

"BABEL is a house open to the world. Each address is a chapter in the same book: one of encounters, memory, and travel." — Joris Brunel, founder of BABEL

Babel Lille - Société with a mission

An Invitation to Travel

The hotel's interior design, orchestrated by Chloé Nègre, unfolds like a narrative inspired by the city's history, at once a crossroads of European capitals and a rear base for the great Northern ports. This history is one of travel, steeped in maritime tales and stopovers at the ends of the earth, like the home of a modern-day corsair who collects objects through chance encounters, blending vintage finds with bespoke creations.

To bring this vision to life, Chloé Nègre distills a timeless aesthetic, bringing together noble and natural materials, custom-designed objects, antiques, and vintage furniture. BABEL thus seems to belong to several eras, telling multiple stories, and inviting connection, dialogue, and inspiration.

A local network

BABEL weaves ties with the city and its region, shining a light on local craftsmanship and expertise, as well as French artists and artisans.

The washbasins in the rooms, reminiscent of amphorae crossing lands and seas, are by Faïences Herbeau; located just a few kilometers from the hotel, it is the last French manufacturer of sanitary ceramics. The illustrated frescoes by ornamental painter Lucile Boitelle, along with her patterns reproduced on the carpets, give the hotel that timeless patina so characteristic of BABEL. The stained glass windows in the bar and lobby were custom-made by Hugo Lepoutre, a Lille-based stained glass studio. The tableware and certain objects were crafted by ElsaB, a ceramic artist. The artworks displayed throughout the hotel were curated by Amélie Maison d’Art, centered around the theme of travel and the spice route.

Lille, my city

True to its mission of sustainable and inclusive hospitality, Babel Lille is taking concrete action alongside the local network of associations. Continuing the spirit of BABEL Belleville, the hotel aims to promote local employment, social integration, diversity, and access to sustainable food through hands-on collaborations:

La Sauvegarde du Nord, a historic player in solidarity and social integration, La Sauvegarde supports youth and adults facing difficulties on their path to employment and independence.

Les Petites Cantines Lille-Fives, a participatory and inclusive canteen fostering community and sustainable eating through solidarity brunches.

Solfa and Lille Avenirs enable people facing difficulties in accessing employment to be offered opportunities for integration and to achieve social inclusion through training and work.

Purpose-driven hospitality

Every address in the MyHotels Group shares the same vision of eco-friendly, conscious, and optimistic hospitality: a circular economy, short supply chains, eco-certified products, reasoned energy management, and ongoing staff training on environmental impact.

It is no longer just about being a place to crash, but about being a positive force for the city, a place where people come to connect just as much as to sleep, where traveling is no longer just about moving, but about meeting.

Our eco-charter

To travel is to discover the world, but it is also to ensure we don't damage it. Because we believe in meaningful hospitality, Babel is committed to ensuring your stay leaves a beautiful mark on your memories, but the lightest possible footprint on the planet.

As an eco-friendly hotel in the Lille metropolis and a proud holder of the Green Key (Clef Verte) label, we have drawn up a charter of concrete actions to minimize our environmental impact while guaranteeing optimal welcome and comfort for our guests.

Ecology is, above all, a human story.

  • The hotel manager has undergone specific training on the challenges of sustainable tourism, environmental protection, and CSR.

  • Our management and teams are trained in sustainable tourism and master everyday eco-friendly practices.

  • We favor short supply chains and select our suppliers based on their social and environmental ethics.

  • We invite you to join the movement through simple gestures (water, lighting) gently pointed out in your rooms.

We preserve resources without sacrificing your well-being.

  • Babel's warm atmosphere relies on low-consumption LED lighting. In the hallways, sensors ensure lights only shine when necessary.

  • Our taps are equipped with water savers and pressure reducers to conserve water while ensuring the comfort of a great shower.

  • We track our consumption monthly to hunt down the slightest leak and optimize our usage.

  • We encourage our guests to use water responsibly by not leaving the tap running, and to turn off lights and electronic devices when leaving the room.

The best waste is the waste that doesn't exist.

  • We have banned single-use containers. In our bathrooms, you'll find large-format, natural products.

  • To limit packaging, we prioritize bulk and large-volume purchasing.

  • In the rooms, we have set up a desk bin for recyclable waste (paper, plastic, cardboard) and a bin for organic waste to encourage sorting.

  • We have created a welcome page in the rooms to help our guests with their eco-gestures in accordance with local regulations.

  • We have established partnerships with local recycling centers, as well as with ecological and solidarity-based associations, allowing you to support their actions.

Taking care of the earth also means taking care of you.

  • Our breakfast offers vegan and vegetarian options, as well as local and seasonal products. We also accommodate specific dietary requirements.

  • Our cellar swears only by natural, organic, or biodynamic wines that respect both the soil and the people who work it.

  • For your health and that of our teams, cleaning is done with eco-labeled products, ensuring healthy indoor air.

  • Our plants thrive without pesticides, cared for using natural gardening methods.

  • We guide you in exploring Lille differently: by bike, on foot, or by public transport.

  • We have set up partnerships with local recycling centers and solidarity/ecological associations, allowing you to support their initiatives.

We remain attentive watchmen, always on the lookout for new ideas to perfect our approach. Feel free to share yours with us!
